Top Places to Stay in Bangkok, Thailand - A Complete Guide

Consistently ranked amongst the world’s most visited destinations, Bangkok really is unlike any other place on the globe.

Where else can you taste Michelin-starred noodles, treat yourself to creative, award-winning cocktails, meditate in centuries-old monasteries, and end the night dancing on a 60-story rooftop? Whatever experience you’re looking for, Thailand’s exciting capital always delivers.

Like the rest of the city, Bangkok’s hotel scene is equally fascinating. Here, you can choose between ritzy resorts, charming boutique hotels, and lively hostels.

So how can you find the best Bangkok hotel? The simplest way to begin your search is to decide whether to stay in Old Town or downtown. The first option gives you access to the capital’s most iconic sights, while downtown puts you at a convenient distance from the city’s fabulous dining and entertainment scene.

What are the best places to stay in Bangkok? Are there any Bangkok hotels that should be on your radar? Let’s take a look at the vibrant city’s top-rated accommodations.

Hotels Near to Suvarnabhumi Airport

As the home of one of the largest and busiest airports in South Asia, Bangkok is often regarded as the perfect layover city. If you’re travelling somewhere further and see Bangkok as a stopover in your bigger adventure, the best option is to book a hotel near the airport.

When you think of an airport hotel, you probably imagine something functional and budget-friendly, not exactly glamorous. Well, not in Bangkok! If you’re looking for five-star service, consider staying at Le Méridien Suvarnabhumi, Bangkok Golf Resort & Spa. Conveniently located between Suvarnabhumi International Airport (BKK) and the city centre, it’s the perfect place to get acquainted with Thailand’s capital (even if only for a few hours).

Don’t want to splurge on an airport hotel? For travellers with late-night arrivals or early-morning departures, I recommend booking a stay at Novotel Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport. While it may feel a bit outdated design-wise, it’s just 2 minutes from the airport (arguably the closest you can possibly find), plus your booking runs for 24 hours from the time of check-in.

Another great option, just a 5-minute walk from the airport’s main terminal is Hyatt Regency Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport. The hotel features a lovely outdoor swimming pool, complete with a swim-up bar, a hot tub, and even a sauna and steam room. What’s great is that guests can take advantage of a free shuttle to the airport, which runs 24 hours a day.

Best Bangkok Hotels in the Old City

Budget Hotels

Bangkok is well known as an excellent destination for travellers on a tight budget. When it comes to wallet-friendly options, my favourite pick is The Printing House Poshtel. For a very attractive price, you get a well-appointed room, close to the city’s main attractions. Those who prefer a quieter area can opt for the Here Hostel Bangkok, which offers both private and shared dormitory-style rooms.

Mid-Range Hotels

Bangkok doesn’t do boring. So, why should you? If you’re tired of lookalike lobbies, consider booking a stay at Bangkok Publishing Residence. The hotel, which is located in an old printing factory, doubles as a museum. In fact, it used to be the home of a publisher and his family!

The boutique hotel boasts a retro appearance, but despite that, guests have access to modern amenities including bluetooth speakers, an air purifier, and more. The true star of the show, however, is the spectacular rooftop garden!

Other great options include Riva Surya Bangkok – a lovely hotel set along the Chao Phraya River – and Sala Rattanakosin – accommodation within walking distance of the Grand Palace. Its sweeping views of Wat Arun are a must-see!

Luxury Hotels

Who said it’s impossible to travel back in time? Stepping into The Siam feels like a portal to a bygone Bangkok. No two suites at this intimate 38-room luxury boutique hotel are the same. Each has its own unique theme, highlighted by impressive antiques and artwork. The Siam is also home to two of the city’s trendiest restaurants – The Story House and Bar, and Chai.

While it’s not easy to top Siam’s luxury, Siri Sala just might. This White Lotus-famous villa, located near the Bangkok Noi canal, just across from the Grand Palace, can accommodate up to 12 guests.

Top Downtown Bangkok Hotels

Budget

Travellers who appreciate modern comforts and world-class shopping at their doorstep may want to stay in Bangkok’s downtown. When it comes to budget accommodations, Nap Hotel Bangkok is an excellent option to consider. It’s clean, comfortable, and just 500 metres from the Wholesale Market (Pratunam)

Mid-Range Hotels

Looking for the best Bangkok hotels with a pool? Mode Sathorn might be the perfect pick! With a chic and modern atmosphere, stunning rooftop bar, and plenty of space, it’s a great place to soak in the magic of Thailand’s capital.

If you’re travelling for business, I also recommend the Galleria 10 Hotel Bangkok. It offers good-sized working areas, excellent high-speed internet, and inviting outdoor spaces for poolside drinks once the workday is done.

Luxury Hotels

Bangkok’s downtown has no shortage of luxury stays. At Waldorf Astoria Bangkok, you can experience New York grandeur with a Thai twist. Housed in a 60-story high-rise in Magnolias Ratchadamri Boulevard, this five-star gem is certainly one of the best Bangkok hotels with a pool. Plus, its dining scene is equally incredible!

Another outstanding option is Park Hyatt Bangkok. Come sunset, the rooftop terrace bar on the 36th floor delivers some of Bangkok’s most spectacular skyline views.

Personally, I stayed at the fantastic Shangri-La Bangkok which offers riverside views, fantastic dining options and a gorgeous swimming pool. You can read my full review of the hotel here.

Final Thoughts

When it comes to value-for-money accommodation, Bangkok is one of the best cities in the world. Creativity is what drives the city, and that also extends to its hotels.

Whether you’re after a quick stopover between adventures or a hotel stay that feels like an experience in itself, you’ll find plenty of options. From sky-high suites to boutique hotels with temple views, Bangkok has something for every traveller.
