Here’s my guide to accommodation in the West Sussex cathedral city of Arundel.

Accommodation in Arundel - A Complete Guide

Home to an almost 1000 year old castle, Arundel has many fantastic accommodation options to choose from. Whether you’re after a cosy pub based room or a charming holiday rental, you’re bound to find something here that suits your taste.

As a local to West Sussex, Arundel is one of my favourite places to visit, with its fascinating history and plethora of independent shops and cafes. I particularly enjoy wandering around the antique shops, looking for unique trinkets to bring home.

Don’t forget to visit the Black Rabbit pub, which is a short walk from Arundel along the riverbank and famously serves an excellent Sunday roast.

Hotels in Arundel

With a variety of comfortable hotels to choose from, my first four recommendations are based in the centre of town, while the remaining two are at nearby Crossbush Services.

The Norfolk Arms Hotel is based in a Georgian coaching inn, offering rooms above the Norfolk Tap bar. All of the rooms have ensuites and guests have access to a private lounge area.

For a similar vibe, check out the Swan Hotel, which is located in the heart of the city, in a grade II listed Victorian building. The bar downstairs is modern and the rooms are furnished to a four star standard. Some of them even have luxurious roll top baths!

St Mary’s Gate Inn makes another cosy option, with a traditional British restaurant on the ground floor. The rooms are well decorated and the inn itself is located just moments away from Arundel Cathedral.

For a more boutique feel, consider booking a room at House Arundel. Based next to the River Arun, this hotel balances modern decor with a traditional feel. Although they don’t serve food onsite, there is the option to add breakfast for an additional fee at one of the local high street cafes.

These last two options offer a cheap and cheerful place to spend the night, whether you’re just passing through or looking for somewhere to stay on a budget. The Premier Inn has a variety of room types available, with triple and quadruple room options that are ideal for families.

Alternatively, the neighbouring Comfort Inn Arundel offers low cost double, twin and triple rooms just a few minutes down the road.

Holiday Rentals in Arundel

If you’re looking for something with more of a homely feel, then consider one of the town’s many lovely holiday rental options.

Larger groups or families will love the beautiful Bennet House, which has four bedrooms, two bathrooms and a large family dining area. A sun terrace is available for use in good weather, and Arundel’s many amenities are within walking distance.

For a smaller but similarly spacious home, this River Cottage makes a fantastic option. The private garden has an outdoor dining area, and there’s a homey fireplace in the living room.

If you’re looking for somewhere to stay with easy access to the train station, then the two bedroom Roseland Apartment is ideal. The sloped ceilings have a cosy feel and Arundel station is just moments away.

For something a bit smaller, why not consider either this One Bedroom Flat or this Studio Apartment. Both are well located in the town and equipped with kitchen facilities.

Hotels Near Arundel

If you’d prefer to stay outside of town, then these hotels have more of a countryside feel but are still within easy access of Arundel.

With the village of Amberley just a short drive away, Amberley Castle makes for a luxurious and unique stay. Based in a 900 year old castle, this hotel is well furnished to modern standards while retaining its traditional features.

Think rooms filled with antiques, a croquet lawn and tennis court, as well as ramparts that you can climb with stunning views. There’s even a suit of armour in the Great Room.

If a spa stay is more your thing, then the Avisford Park Hotel will be right up your street. This property has indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a golf club, fitness facilities and a restaurant.

With a variety of room types available, Arundel is still easily accessible and only a ten minute drive away.

The Pig in the South Downs makes more of a boutique choice, and is located in Madehurst to the north of Arundel. Their facilities include spa treatment rooms and a restaurant serving locally sourced food. The bedrooms themselves are stunning and they even have self contained garden cabins available.

Finally, the Bailiffscourt Hotel & Spa combines a traditional property with a spa stay, featuring medieval architecture, gothic windows and an original Norman chapel. Arundel is just a 15 minute from here and there’s a restaurant onsite that serves English cuisine.

Wherever you choose to stay, I hope that you have a fantastic time in West Sussex and enjoy visiting lovely Arundel.
