Located in the Horsham area of West Sussex, Amberley is a beautiful village known for its thatched roof cottages and medieval castle.
It’s a popular location for walkers, and the local history is documented in the Amberley Museum. There’s also a 12th century church, St Michael’s, which is the oldest remaining building in the village.

Here’s my full guide to accommodation in and near the village of Amberley.
Hotels in Amberley
Why not fulfil your childhood dreams by staying in a castle for a night or two? Amberley Castle is now a stunning hotel with 900 years of history. It started life as a mere hunting lodge built in 1103, before being developed into a fortified manor house.
After being destroyed by Oliver Cromwell in 1643, the castle was rebuilt and even visited twice in 1660 by King Charles II. It has changed hands many times over the years and was eventually converted into a luxury hotel in 1989.
Today, Amberley Castle offers a high end visitor experience much more luxurious than those who visited during the previous 900 years. The bedrooms are luxurious and sumptuous food is served in the Queen's Room restaurant, which is open daily for afternoon tea and dinner.
Treat yourself and book this unique stay you won’t find anywhere else in Sussex.
If luxurious castles aren’t your thing, then do consider the Black Horse. This cosy pub has a number of light, well decorated rooms and one even has a feature bath inside the bedroom!
Guests have access to free WiFi and breakfast is served each morning between 9 and 11am.
The Sportsman is a similar option, with clean, traditional rooms hosted above a quaint British pub. Some of the rooms have fantastic countryside views, and the breakfast is well rated by previous guests.
