Here I’ve listed 10 of the best epoxy resin projects for beginners, ranging from coasters and trays to pumpkins and plant pots. Whether you’ve never poured resin before or you’re looking for a way develop your skills, you’ll find an exciting new project to try on this list.

What is epoxy resin?
Epoxy resin is a plastic material which starts as a liquid, and solidifies when mixed with a hardener solution. It’s highly durable, and can be bonded to other materials like wood, metal and glass.
This resin is also regularly used in arts and crafts, and can be used to create fantastic decorative pieces when poured into moulds.
While there are many different resin brands out there, I personally use Mouldd, which is the UK’s number 1 rated resin and is used by more than 100,000 artists. Their resin is VOC free, non-toxic, and designed so that it won’t yellow over time. It’s also food safe and heat resistant up to 90°C once cured.
Mould's resin can be poured clear or mixed with mica powder to produce a variety of eye catching designs. Their Original Resin is perfect for beginners, and can be used to pour any depth up to 20mm.
Where Should You Start With Epoxy Resin?
If you’ve never tried resin art before, then I highly recommend purchasing one of Mouldd’s starter kits, which contain everything you need to create your first pieces. Additional moulds and bottles of resin can also be purchased on their website.
I recommend buying an extra litre or two, as you’ll want to create more once you’ve had a go!
1) Resin Coaster Starter Kit
A simple project for beginners, resin coasters are a great way to start crafting with epoxy resin. The coaster moulds themselves are shallow, which makes it easy to experiment with different designs.
You can even add dried flowers, leaves or charms if you want to mix up your designs.

2) Dried Flower Preservation Starter Kit
One of the great things about resin is that you can add your own flowers, gems and foil to create your own designs. This bundle from Mouldd has everything you need to get started, including two moulds, 3L of deep pour resin and 1L original resin.

3) Trinket Trays
Once you’ve mastered the drinks coasters above, trinket trays are a great project to try next. These are very similar in shape, but slightly larger and with more uses. These are so versatile and make perfect gifts or home decor pieces.
I started with an oval trinket tray, but Mouldd also have wavy, cloud and leaf shaped designs too.

4) Flower Vase
Something I love about resin pouring is that it’s so easy to create complex shapes. Flower vases are much easier to create than they look - all you need to do is pour the resin mix into the mould and wait for it to cure.
The vase moulds come in all different shapes and sizes, from small bud vases to tall ones for larger flowers.

5) Heart Shaped Dish
This cute heart shape makes an adorable trinket tray. It’s small, measuring 129mm x 115mm x 17mm, and uses only 60ml of resin.

6) Oval Bowl
This is a larger project to attempt once you feel comfortable pouring the coasters and trinket trays. On the Mouldd website you will find silicone moulds for a variety of bowls: geometric, irregular, wavy, oval and more.
The oval bowl measures 218mm x 108mm x 42mm and requires 240ml of resin in total.

7) Decorative Pumpkin
One of my favourite options on this list, decorative pumpkins are all the rage in the autumn months, so why not make your own?
Measuring 100mm x 98mm, these moulds require 250ml of resin for each pumpkin, and currently cost £12.99.

8) Mushroom And Pudding Jar Moulds
This is a great project when you feel ready for something a bit more complex. Each jar is made of two pieces, and uses a total of 220ml of resin.

Do You Have Enough Resin for Your Project?
