What Are Pipe Cleaner Flowers?

This fun craft is exactly what it sounds like, and involves using pipe cleaners to create beautiful flowers.

Pipe cleaners themselves were first invented by John Harry Stedman and Charles Angel in the early 1900s, as a tool for cleaning tobacco pipes. In the decades since they have become a popular material for arts and crafts, used by children in classrooms and homes around the world.

Not only are pipe cleaners naturally flexible, but they can also be really soft to touch and easy to work with. This makes them ideal for crafting a variety of flowers in a range of species and colours.

There are lots of different ways to do this, with some techniques being easier than others. As a complete beginner, I wanted to try a Craft Club Co kit, as I knew from past experience that it was likely to come with good quality materials and clear video instructions.

Pipe Cleaner Flowers: Craft Club Kit Review

My first impression was that this kit’s a lot harder that it looks! These flowers definitely require a lot of concentration, and needed to be my sole focus while I was working on them. Having said that, it was a lot of fun and I was really happy with the results.

The materials were lovely to use and the pipe cleaners themselves were much softer than any I was supplied with as a child.

What Comes in the Kit?

This kit comes with everything you need to make and decorate 5 different types of pastel coloured wildflowers.

This includes:

  • Pipe cleaners in a range of colours

  • Green florist wire

  • Green floral tape

  • Glue dots

  • Paper and ribbons for wrapping the bouquet

  • A needle, thread and needle threader

  • Pearls for decoration

  • I would recommend purchasing your own craft glue to use with this project - I used a hot glue gun and found it to be really effective

How Easy is it to Make Pipe Cleaner Flowers?

These flowers definitely weren’t easy to make, but I enjoyed the challenge and really felt like I’d learned something new. I found that each type of flower became easier to make once I’d finished the first one, and after a few hours I started to amass a small collection for my bouquet.

The project overall took me about a week to complete, with flower making sessions spread across several days.

How Much Does It Cost?

This Pastel Wildflowers Bouquet Kit currently costs £39 on the Craft Club Co website. Two other varieties are also available for the same price: Blanc Blooms and Blushing Bouquet.

What Did I Think of the Finished Flowers?

I thought that the finished flowers were lovely. I liked how the kit had really considered how the bouquet would come together, with a choice of finishes that included paper and ribbon for wrapping.

I decided to wrap mine simply with yellow ribbon and a blue bow, as this would maintain the shape of the bouquet and allow me to place it inside a vase. My flowers are definitely not perfect, but nature isn’t uniform, and I’m really pleased with how they look.

Who is This Kit Suitable For?

This flower bouquet kit is suitable for adults who are new to crafts, and those with more experience and are looking to try something new. No prior knowledge is needed and the kit includes everything that you need to complete the bouquet, although I do recommend purchasing a hot glue gun if you don’t have one.

While the kit is suitable for beginners, it is a challenging project, and I recommend saving this for when you already have a few craft projects under your belt.

I do feel that this will be too difficult for children, but would be suitable for teenagers who enjoy arts and crafts.

Final Thoughts on Craft Club Co’s Pipe Cleaner Flower Kit

I had a lot of fun working on this project, and was really happy with the results. I currently have my lovely bouquet on display in my office, and while the flowers don’t look perfect, I’m amazed that I created these using pipe cleaners!

I really liked that I was provided with a range of options for decoration, and feel that the pearls give the flowers a great finish.

If you’re also thinking about trying this one, then make sure you’re prepared for a challenge and you’re ready for you want something to really focus on. Of course, you may find this a lot easier than I did if you consider yourself to be someone who is a more experienced crafter.

If you’re on the fence then I definitely recommend giving the kit a go, particularly as it’s relatively inexpensive, comes with great quality materials and has impressive results.
