I wrote a blog post two years ago about my SURI toothbrush, which I’ve used every day since it arrived in the post.

This was my first ever electric toothbrush, and I loved how it made my teeth feel so clean. After two years of consistent use it still worked really well - until I left it in a hotel room in Zurich, much to my dismay.

The bright side is that this gave me a reason to try the new version of their toothbrush, which promised to be an upgraded version of its predecessor.

My favourite thing about the SURI toothbrush is that it’s made from plant based materials and is fully recyclable. The heads themselves are made from cornstarch and castor oil, and the brand even provides a prepaid envelope so that you can send your used brush heads back to them.

Key features of the SURI 2.0 toothbrush

Sonic vibrations per minute: 33,000

Two cleaning modes: clean and polish

Battery life: 4+ weeks

New pressure sensor

How is the SURI 2.0 toothbrush different from the first one?

SURI already have a good product, so they haven’t changed the fundamental design. Instead, they have enhanced a few of its features to make it more effective.

This includes:

  • A redesigned motor that is 25% more powerful

  • A new sensor that indicates when too much pressure is being applied. This causes the brush to beep and stop vibrating, resuming once the pressure has been reduced

  • Induction charging in the travel case, which also has an updated design with rounded edges

Above you can see the difference between the new case (left) and old case (right).

As this brand is all about minimising waste, I was pleased to see that both the old and new models look identical and come in the same range of colours. This means that they use the same brush heads, and you won’t need to waste any that you already own.

The consistency in its design means that your new toothbrush will match the others in your household. My partner still has the 1.0 toothbrush, and because the models look the same, they still match in the bathroom like they did before.

My Verdict

If you haven’t yet purchased the original SURI toothbrush, or you have but it’s feeling worn out and in need of an upgrade, then you should definitely invest in the new model.

Not only does the SURI 2.0 feel more powerful, but the redesigned travel case is more functional and easier to use. I also find the new pressure really helpful, as I do have a tendency to chew on my toothbrushes, and it provides a reminder

The brush has also retained the features that I liked first time around, including a simple, streamlined design, and the ability for it to be fully recycled.
